This year’s Ciutat de Barcelona Awards in Environmental and Earth Sciences featured strong representation from BCNUEJ with researchers Isabelle Anguelovski and Panagiota Kotsila, and ICTA-UAB colleague Andre Colonese, invited to serve on the jury. The awards, which have honored excellence across the cultural and scientific spectrum since 1949, held a dedicated ceremony for the scientific categories on May 26, highlighting their growing importance in the city’s development.
As part of the jury, our researchers helped select the winning work: the 2024 Europe Report of the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change, authored by Kim van Daalen and led by Rachel Lowe. The jury praised the report for its innovation, interdisciplinary approach, and social relevance, recognizing it as a key reference for understanding the health impacts of climate change and advancing evidence-based policy.

In addition to her role on the jury, Isabelle Anguelovski also delivered a speech as Vice President of the Barcelona Scientific Advisory Council, underlining BCNUEJ’s ongoing commitment to engaged, policy-relevant research that addresses urgent urban and environmental challenges.
The event reaffirmed the Ciutat de Barcelona Awards’ mission to celebrate scientific talent and its contribution to the city’s future.
