Green Urban Inequalities Webinar | 7th of December 2016

In a presentation to members of the Sustainability Solutions Group (SSG), a Canada-based worker cooperative of sustainability professionals that work on projects with local governments, institutions, design teams, and artists, our researchers Melissa García-Lamarca and Tatjana Trebic held a webinar titled Green Urban Inequalities in Europe, the US and Canada, which served to unpack the progression of green city (in)justices in environmental nuisance siting, environmental amenity distribution, and urban greening projects through discussions on environmental justice and gentrification.

Melissa and Tatjana introduced BCNUEJ’s GREENLULUS project, explaining our approach and presenting our preliminary work on the fair Urban Greening Index and greening in Canadian cities. SSG members contributed their experiences with relevant civic tools for sharing index data with the public and gave examples of successful design for the preservation of affordability in communities popularized by their environmental amenities.
